using an adaptive mindset in day-to-day practice?
if it is very essential today to reconsider the life of every single thing that we use and produce: by the life we mean where it comes from, the use, and where it is going after the user has ended. as much as possible, we reuse and recycle what is no longer useful. but can we use an adaptive mindset on our day-to-day practice? what would be the challenge? and how to begin?
“in our studio, we have a department that does a lot of exhibitions, especially when running brno design days. through these many installations, it becomes crucial that we think about the life of these often one-time-use materials because it would be such a waste to throw it all away in every demolition. so we started looking for ways to reuse these materials, and it started with our offices. so our office is 80% of recycled materials from the exhibitions.
“on top of that, thanks to our social reactor project, we work closely with an ngo company that takes care of hardly adaptable or rentable spaces. so we are currently managing these spaces waiting for ‘new lives’ and we are using these demolition materials and pieces to be reused in them. out of this, we create a stream of reusing the material in the built environment — as a way of finding a way of turning all the demolished pieces into something that can be reused somewhere else.”
