in tucson, arizona, anello restaurant occupies one of the five “shotgun” styled spaces nestled inside a 19th-century historical building.

the restaurant was designed by a local-based architectural studio, space bureau, inspired by the japanese concept of wabi-sabi which came from the owner’s personal experience (who is also the chef) who has spent time living in japan and italy.

built upon a very limited area, the modern interior allows the wabi-sabi concept to pay homage to an extra sense of intimacy. resulting in an endless warmth, experiential, and inviting feeling dedicated to the tucson community, which was known to be the first unesco city of gastronomy in the us since 2015.

here within anello, the essence of wabi sabi further expands to three concepts. the love for natural elements, simplicity, and imperfections. carrying beauty through what remains incompleted — unfinished — imperfectly flawless. creating a strong connection to the earth and rawness while maintaining its original form…
