the heartbreaking truth behind douglas diaz’s “i can’t paint” project

a heartbreaking story recently came from a poetic, bangkok-based american artist, douglas diaz. former architect turns to a contemporary artist whose practice pilgrimage to seek inner peace. one amongst the living being that firmly highlights an exploration of humanity through all the distinctive abstract paintings.
diaz, whose work has exhibited globally; from his solo exhibitions in bangkok thailand, art & art gallery, miami, usa, art stage singapore, roppongi hills, tokyo japan, jakarta indonesia, to group exhibitions in sydney australia, etc., is currently unable to continue his journey as a passionate painter in indonesia as it was said to violate the tourist visa.
“the violation stemmed from the fact that i was producing a “product”, which could be sold. therefore it would be deemed that i was working. and in turn, not within the guidelines of my visa.” explained diaz, on his instagram post, @d2.art.
