kloof 145 can be accessed from kloof road, nestled in the wind-protected suburb of clifton, in one notably recognized slope in ciudad del cabo, south africa.
the slope was conceivably covered by indigenous forest and fynbos. a natural landscape awaits to hosts perpetual scenery for the serene living of the occupants.
as time goes by, the area has been developed to enjoy spectacular views over the sandy beaches, boulder outcrops, and twelve apostles mountains towards the south and sunset views over the atlantic ocean. this is also where the renowned south african architectural studio, saota, emerged with the idea of designing kloof 145 as a space to celebrates what has already been there.
according to saota, several aspects and challenges have to be tackled before designing the modern-industrial house.
the first aspect to focus on was the steep slope that would have to be excavated to accommodate the structure as the home was conceived as an arrangement of staggered blocks that rise along the side of the mountain, with the upper, private levels becoming shielded from both visibility and street-level noise.
