the design story — born out of admiration and love for serene beauty, karimoku case study upholds a steady focus on developing furniture made of wood for an ultimate homeware designs that are beyond the timeless aesthetics, but those tailored to specific functions and structures.

the studio was developed under japan’s leading wooden furniture manufacturer, karimoku. but the story on how it grew special attention was for the collaborating designers behind it: a japan-based keiji ashizawa design studio and danish-based norm architects.

inspired by the case study houses, the two studios shared design values that draw on the visionary works of architects to an iconic-modernist masterpieces. by using a holistic approach, they work their way from the architectural framework into the interiors and objects to fill up a space to meet specific needs and structures, rather than just considering aesthetic experiences, resulting in pieces that possess inherent richness and gain beauty with time and age.
