while ikea and many giant companies chasing after zero waste and circular business for a greener earth, on january 21st, 2002, starbucks chief executive officer kevin johnson unveiled a multi-decade aspiration to be a resource-positive company, giving more than what it takes from the planet.

the design story — for starbucks, sustainability has been at the core of the business since it began in 1971. and over the years, along with the help of global communities, which includes the partners, industry experts, and advocates, starbucks always looks for ways to help protect the planet.

not only through a cup sleeve made of recycled content, or ethically sourcing 99% of their coffee, the company have also started developing the leed for retail program, investments in renewable energy, and take the lead in the creation of a recyclable and compostable paper to-go cup.
