going back to the “public” sounds a little bit terrifying today. many have questioned whether it is safe enough to go to the theater, fly and travel amongst cities, or ride on a bus just like we casually did a year ago.

to date, theaters and cinemas have tried to reopen after massive closures since early 2020. air travel and massive public transportation have also followed the rule of “the new normal”. maybe the idea was not so bad, as long as they can provide a safer seating configuration such as providing extra legroom, followed by strict health protocols. several changes have to be adapted as well.

let the show begin again?

in germany, some venues such as the german capital’s berliner and the berliner ensemble have provided a glimpse of the theatrical world amidst social distancing.

the theatre by the river spree, founded in 1949 by bertolt brecht, have uninstalled 500 of the 700 seats in its main auditorium. leaving only 200 seats for a viewing experience that adheres to government requirements of at least 4ft away. simultaneously, some doors to the auditorium will remain open to allow circulating air into the room.
