circular union is all about growing knowledge and cultivating meaningful impact. mariah wright on #storyofdesign

the name “circular union” itself might put up some questions in our heads. aside from its brightly-colored “mush-hues” that have tapped the new kind of innovation derived from plant-based material, now we may wonder if the name is closely related to the idea of circular economy or whether they have premises in line with the term “circularity”.

perhaps, being inspired by the circular economy is what people had thought about when they heard the jargon. yet, joining the momentum is what actually drives mariah wright to have her design perspective as future-oriented as we are heading to the cycle. on top of all, what is the meaning of “circular” to you? and what about “union”? when referring to the future, we can not separate these words from explorations of vision, intention, and innovation.

“i think we need to think more vigorously about what drives the communities and networks we created around design.” mariah wright told the design story team, upon continuous interview held in may 2020.

“it was like trying to smash two ideas together: “circularity” as in standing on a new process and accountability, and “union” as in breaking outside these ideas of someone whose job is about growing knowledge, growing…
