when talking about design nowadays, we cannot seem to set it apart from the word “sustainability”. this is because appreciating nature and comprehending every exploration and typologies of it are among the journey of realizing the well-being of tomorrow.

however, to understand the essence of tropical design through the eye of sustainability is another lifelong-learning process, of which alexis dornier, in this interview with the design story, has revealed his definition of sustainable efforts in architecture.

sustainability in architecture — how do you achieve it?

“sustainability is a big word and we are far from being able to call ourselves “sustainable architects”. but what we have an impact on is how big are the footprints; how do we negotiate with clients that have expectations; how can we remind them that whatever they do out of whatever the material, it has an impact. and the less they do, the better it is because the less resources required to use.”
