biodegradable dress’ sequins by phillip lim and charlotte mccurdy

fashion designer phillip lim and new york based industrial designer charlotte mccurdy have invented a new petroleum-free dress covered in algae sequins. the challenge was to turn the non-woven material into a new kind of luxury garment for lim’s fashion label 3.1 phillip lim. mccurdy, who previously worked on developing algae bioplastic film, introduces the biodegradable solution made of plant fibers that reduce the pollution it causes by the end of the day. hence the dress will be free of crude-oil derivatives, including synthetic fibers, dyes, and plastic sequins.
