the asanka coffee table by chrissa amuah — ghana

the asanka is a coffee table topped with an asanka, a typical of shallow clay bowl traditionally used to grind and blend food in west africa.

designed by chrissa amuah, a textile design ma graduate of distinction from the world-renowned chelsea college of art & design, university of the arts london. she has served as creative director and founder of amwa designs. although born and raised in london, and her heritage stems from ghana, togo, and benin, ghana is where she draws most of her design-led inspiration.

since its establishment in 2014, her pieces illustrate beautiful assimilation of concepts and cultures and speak to a contemporary generation whose lifestyle is forward-thinking. the meanings of adinkra are timeless and transcend all cultures that live well in harmony with 21st-century living.
