2021 designing retail stores 2.0
news by shafa diandra
there was a saying by vanessa rothschild, global sustainability steering and development manager of h&m group to mckinsey, that the retail industry that embraces circularity and digitization at the same time will dominate the fashion industry.
h&m is one of the retail industry whose offline store is quite popular among millenials. even if some of their physical stores have closed across the globe, the brand has tested circular models through several initiatives, including digital space for buying, selling preowned items, and many interactive attempts, such as going sustainable and utilize used resources and give it a second life.
“this pandemic had a transformative impact on society; the economic, social, and psychological effects will be felt for generations. the growth in online shopping has sped up. consumer demand for comfort, in every sense of the word, is growing: both comfort in terms of styles and fashion trends, but also comfort and convenience in customer interactions.” added rothschild.
this means that offline stores soon would no longer be necessary as everyone finds more comfort in the digital wardrobe. also, they began to love seeing the idea of sustainability — eco-friendly wearables. the more sustainable and creatively innovated it is, the more they find it valuable.
